〜Story Setting〜

The setting is the ocean!
A young American woman in a one-piece dress finds a lifebuoy on the shore. As she peers inside, she is suddenly sucked in—transported to a parallel world beyond the beach!

A ship approaches, but no matter how much she yells, they don’t understand her language and fail to notice her distress. She’s stuck—until the sea creatures come to her aid!

They seem to be saying, “Call our names!” and bring her kanji characters that represent them.

Nearby, she discovers a strange watermelon field, where hiragana letters are engraved. By smashing the watermelons with a stick, she can collect the hiragana characters to spell out their names!

But watch out!

To escape from this mysterious world, she must read the kanji.

You can learn Kanji with the “fish” radical. Whack-a-Melon～Kanji BuzzerQuiz is a game similar to Whack-a-Mole, but you hit watermelons instead of moles.

Kanji will show up on the right side of the screen. Your job is to answer how to read it. To get it right, hit the watermelons with the correct kanji in the correct order.

A radical is like the “main piece” of a kanji. It’s a part of the kanji that helps show its meaning or how it’s used.

For example, the “fish” radical (魚) is found in kanji about fish, like tuna (鮪) or salmon (鮭).

Think of it as a clue to what the kanji is about!
You can think of it as a hint about what the kanji means!

In kanji, the “Tsukuri” is the part on the right side of the character. It often helps show how to read the kanji or what it means.

For example:
・In the kanji 鰍 (kajika, meaning “Fish that are in season during autumn（Fish that are best to eat in winter）”), the right side 秋 (aki,meaning"autumn") is the “Tsukuri.”

・In the kanji 鮟(ann) and 鱇 (kou), the right side 安 (ann) and 康 (kou) are the “Tsukuri.”

Think of it as the piece on the right side that helps build the meaning or sound of the kanji!
